I Museo Archeologico Nazionale 's store Damien Hirst-katalog fra oktober 2004 får kunstneren følgende spørgsmål:
"How do you consider the Spin paintings?"
"I don't know. I think they are probably the weakest aspect of my work. I love it when the machine is turning, but as soon as they are dry and stop I get bored very quickly of them. If I had one on my wall I would turn it. Having said that, they are what they are. They are a very simple, childish thing. I don't think that they will really make any impact in the history of painting. I kind of look at them as sculptures. What do you think of them? Shit!"
Interviewer: "I agree with you. I think they are very easy fun. I like especially their titles."
"They are good, big. It is because they are big that I think they kind of work. In my mind I only just like them; I think they are too cheap and too tricky. It is like too much of a cheap trick. Then when you see one on a wall, it is like sometimes I forget they are fucking good. I wouldn't buy one. Don't buy one, get something else. I have a love/hate relationship with them."
